The new install provides an SDK with some documentation on how to get started. Other changes to Majesty are to facilitate the creation of user Quests.
You can change back to using the older DirectDraw for rendering by going to the Settings page in game or by editing MajXPrefs in your My Documents/My Games/MajestyHD directory with Notepad and changing the value from 1 to 0.

If you have trouble starting the game with Windows stating that a DLL is missing, you may have to install these Microsoft redistributables. The beta version of the game defaults to using DirectX 9 for the rendering and should be more compatible with newer hardware. If for some reason you have trouble with the beta or just want to go back to the original, Repeat the process and select NONE from the betas list and Steam will revert your game back to the released version.
